Welcome to The Lion’s Feast, a delightful and brain-boosting game where players race to feed hungry animals their favourite foods! Part of HABA’s innovative “Fex Effect” series, this game keeps young players thinking, adapting, and sharpening essential learning skills as the rules shift from round to round.
Children explore memory, concentration, impulse control, and flexible thinking as they search for the correct food plates, flip coins, and adjust to surprising new rule twists. With colourful animal cards, chunky lion coins, and fun food tokens in three sizes (small, medium, large), The Lion’s Feast is an engaging game that grows with your child.
Why it’s great for kids:
-
Supports Executive Function Skills: Helps children practice impulse control, flexible thinking, and memory—key foundations for learning success.
-
Encourages Thinking & Adaptability: Changing rule variants require kids to analyse, switch strategies, and stay alert.
-
Boosts Visual Discrimination & Categorisation: Players compare food types and sizes to match each animal’s preferences.
-
Promotes Social Play: Children learn turn-taking, patience, and sportsmanship.
-
High Replay Value: With five different play variants, the game always feels fresh and challenging.
How to play:
Setup
- Arrange the six animal cards in a circle.
- Place one plate with three foods (small, medium, large) into the cut-out circle on each animal card.
- Place the lion coins within reach.
- Choose which Fex Effect rule variant you want to play before starting.
Gameplay
- The active player rolls the die.
The die will show either:- A food symbol, or
- An animal symbol.
- Find the match.
Depending on your chosen rule variant:- Players may need to find the animal that likes the rolled food.
- Or they must find the correctly sized food on the matching animal.
- Some variants instruct players to do the opposite of what the die shows—keeping everyone on their toes!
- Check the plate on the chosen animal card.
If the player finds the right plate with the correct food, they earn a lion coin. - Keep playing rounds until someone collects five lion coins and becomes the winner!
Rule variants:
The game includes 5 different ways to play, such as:
-
Basic Matching: Match the die to the food on an animal’s plate.
-
Size Challenge: Match both the type and size of the food.
-
Reverse Rule (Fex Effect): Roll a food—but look for the animal instead, or vice versa.
-
Special Lion Coins: Flip a coin and follow the special rule on its back (e.g., swap plates, skip animals, reverse actions).
-
Memory Mix-Up: Plates are shuffled or hidden, requiring sharp memory skills.
Each variant introduces a new twist, helping children practice adaptability and concentration.
